What is the difference between classes and tracks?
Classes take place in one day. A class may last one or more hours, but never more than a day. Tracks include many sessions. If you enroll in a track, you will attend several sessions over a period of many days or weeks. Each class listing on this web site states the day and time for the class. Each track listing states all of the days and times of the track sessions.

What are training hours?
Training hours are the number of clock hours of participation in a training class offered by the Georgia Training Institute.

What are CEUs?
CEUs ("Continuing Education Units") are earned by participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction in the field for which you are earning the educational units. One CEU is earned for each ten contact hours of participation.  Early childhood teachers with a Child Development Associate credential (CDA) must have 4.5 CEUs – 45 contact hours of instruction – for renewal.

What are DECAL-approved hours?
Georgia Training Institute courses that are DECAL-approved are courses that have been submitted through the Georgia Child Care Training Approval system and are approved by Bright from the Start (BFTS): Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), a child care licensing classification that indicates the course fulfills an annual 10-hour requirement for child care workers. The rules and regulations for child care centers, group child care homes, and family day care homes require directors and employees who provide any direct care to children to complete at least 10 clock hours of training each year. The training must be task-focused in early childhood education, child development, or subjects relating to job assignment and must be offered by an accredited college, university, vocational program, or other approved source, such as the Georgia Training Institute.

What are college credit recommendations?
Georgia Training Institute courses that offer college credit have been evaluated by the National Program on Non-collegiate Sponsored Instruction, whose evaluation system for courses and educational programs is used by non-collegiate organizations nationwide. When an organization\'s classes and learning programs are found to be comparable to college-level instruction, the NPNSI recommends that colleges and universities grant credit for such courses. When a course or educational program is granted a credit recommendation, the course description and recommendation are published in the Program\'s online Directory, CCR Online, (the successor to the print Directory College Credit Recommendations), which is used by colleges and universities throughout the country.
