Participants will delve into the basics of developmentally appropriate guidance and discipline. An emphasis is placed on the use of encouragement and mutual respect to guide behavior of both teachers and children. Specific positive guidance strategies will be identified.
Participants will: ·Define the difference between discipline and punishment. ·Explore personal values and beliefs about discipline. ·Define cooperation and establish reasonable expectations for cooperation at various stages of children’s development. ·Identify the limitations of using rewards and punishment as motivation for behavior.
·Review ten discipline strategies to use with children in group settings.
